U.S. Exempts China, Singapore from NDAA’s Iran Sanctions

The United States exempted China and Singapore Thursday from Iran sanctions passed in December to pressure foreign central banks to suspend Iranian oil purchases. The exemptions, which could be renewed on a six-month basis, bring the total number of countries excepted from sanctions outlined in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to 20. As part of their agreements with the United States, the nations curtailed their purchases of Iranian crude oil as part of efforts to compel Iran to abandon its nuclear program.
