Nigerian Governor Was Unlawfully Detained During Asset-Seizure Probe: UK Court

A former Nigerian governor jailed in the United Kingdom for laundering embezzled state assets was unlawfully detained as prosecutors tried to claw back millions of pounds before releasing him last year, a court ruled Monday. James Ibori admitted using U.K. and U.S. bank accounts to move nearly £50 million in stolen funds, less than one-third of the amount estimated by London police to have gone missing.
