French financial institutions and other companies subject to anti-money laundering rules filed nearly 161,000 reports suspicious transaction reports in 2021, a year-on-year rise of more than 40 percent largely attributable to a spike in submissions by insurance companies.
Like previous years, and as with those in most, if not all, other countries, banks and other mainstream financial institutions in Germany filed the vast majority of the nation's final, combined tally of roughly 299,000 suspicious transaction reports, or STRs, in 2021.
