France Faces Cryptocurrency and ‘Recovery Room’ Fraud Boom

French regulators blacklisted 441 fraudulent websites in 2024 and now estimate that the number of victims of investment scams centered on phony cryptocurrency-trade training courses, cloned websites and other online schemes possibly tripled over the past three years. Last year's 441 additions mark a new high for France's Financial Markets Authority, or AMF, and Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority, or ACPR, exceeding their prior record of 422 additions to their list of unlicensed or bogus websites and financial entities in 2021.
