Organized crime syndicates in Europe are increasingly using "money mules" to launder their profits via bitcoins and other digital currencies, EU authorities claimed Tuesday. In a joint statement, Europol, Eurojust and the European Banking Federation said that bitcoins played a significant role in efforts by organized criminals in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other European countries to launder at least €30 million in profits from online auction fraud, CEO impersonation fraud and other illicit schemes.
