Banks Struggling with Western Focus on Sanctions Evasion, Analysts Warn

Financial institutions have encountered a host of logistical and legal challenges in detecting and dismantling attempts to evade the West's sanctions against Russia, analysts with ACAMS told attendees of an online briefing. With the Kremlin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine grinding on into its second summer, EU, U.S. and U.K. officials have begun cracking down on the trade networks and trans-shipment hubs that funnel banned goods into Russia, and blacklisted attorneys and other professional enablers for helping other designated parties sidestep the West's economic embargo.
