FinCEN Finalizes Rare Penalty Against Armored Car Company

U.S. prosecutors and regulators hit armored car carrier Brink's with a $37 million civil penalty and more than $50 million in forfeitures Thursday for neglecting to identify the true sources behind hundreds of millions of dollars of cash shipments from Mexico to the U.S. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, alleged in a 41-page consent order that Brink's Global Services USA, a subsidiary of Brinks, failed to register as a money services business with the bureau despite engaging in activities that fit the definition, while federal prosecutors in California accused the company of transmitting funds without a license.
