U.S. Blacklists North Korea’s Kim Jong Un for Human Rights Abuses

The United States blacklisted the North Korean head-of-state Kim Jong Un and 10 other officials on Wednesday for their purported role in extrajudicial killings, torture and other human rights abuses. The Office of Foreign Assets Control, or OFAC, said that the sanctions against the 11 individuals and five governmental organizations reflect the findings of a U.S. State Department report alleging widespread human rights violations and strict censorship within the communist nation, including forced labor by as many as 120,000 adults and children held in political prison camps.
