Alleged Whistleblower in Bank Julius Baer Case Says Swiss Banking Law Violates Human Rights

A former Bank Julius Baer executive filed a complaint with the European Union human rights court, claiming that Swiss bank secrecy laws undermine his right to a fair trial in a case in which he is accused of leaking sensitive bank documents to the public. Rudolf Elmer, formerly with the bank's Cayman Islands branch, said in the complaint filed this month with the European Court of Human Rights that the Swiss laws unfairly prevent litigants from disclosing certain circumstances and data that could aid them in a civil or criminal case.
